2018 SHEBOYGAN CHILDREN & TEEN’S BOOK FESTIVAL TO FEATURE KEN KEFFER, RUTH SPIRO & AIMÉE BISSONETTE
Sheboygan (June 8, 2018) - Sheboygan County Reads!, the non-profit organization which promotes the love of books and reading among local youngsters and teenagers, has revealed three more presenters for the 2018 Sheboygan Children and Teen’s Book Festival. The book festival, set to take place October 12-14, will feature nature and science authors Ken Keffer, Ruth Spiro, and Aimée Bissonette.
Ken Keffer has penned seven books connecting kids and the outdoors, and he has also written a hiking guide. He received the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education’s Nonformal Educator of the Year Award, and The Kids’ Outdoor Adventure Book: 448 Great Things to Do In Nature Before You Grow Up was awarded a National Outdoor Book Award honorable mention.
Ruth Spiro is the author of the Baby Loves Science series and, launching in October, a new STEM-themed picture book series, Made by Maxine. Ruth’s debut picture book, Lester Fizz, Bubble-Gum Artist, won awards from Writer’s Digest and Willamette Writers and was a Bank Street College of Education Best Book.
Aimée Bissonette is the author of several picture books featuring adventurous girls and women. Miss Colfax’s Light, (winner of the American Library Association Amelia Bloomer Award) recounts the true story of Harriet Colfax, one of the few female Lake Michigan lighthouse keepers in the 1860s. Her latest book, Aim for the Skies: Jerrie Mock and Joan Merriam Smith’s Race to Complete Amelia Earhart’s Quest, is due out in September.
