Author & Illustrator
Sheri Roloff is an author and illustrator who enjoys creating picture books, comics and graphic novels for kids. She has been told that the first time she was handed a pencil as an infant, she held it correctly. Sherri acknowledges that this is a bit creepy (and unsafe – who hands an infant a pencil?!), but she's been drawing and writing ever since (with occasional supervision).
Her first comics-style picture book is Hide & Go Seek-A-Saurus, published by KWiL Publishing (Milwaukee, WI.) Sheri will be participating in the Sheboygan Children & Teen’s Book Festival as part of an interactive presentation with KWiL Publishing called “Here’s an Idea: Let’s Make a Picture Book!”

Q&A WITH Sheri Roloff
Q1: OUR THEME THIS YEAR IS HERE'S AN IDEA! WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE SPACE FOR PONDERING IDEAS?
Sheri: When it’s warm, my favorite place to ponder an idea is on a shady patio or on a walk outside. When it’s cold, I love sketching or writing in a coffee shop with a toasty warm beverage.
Q2: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?
Sheri: I really enjoyed my English classes, especially when we got to work on creative writing projects like poetry. I had a couple particularly great teachers in high school who encouraged me along the way.
Q3: WHAT ONE THING WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN TO DO?
Sheri: The list of things I want to learn about changes all the time! Lately, I’ve been looking into different types of art classes that are much different than my usual illustration work, like sculpture. I’m also interested in learning more about printmaking.
Q4: WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO BE AN AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR?
Sheri: Since I was a kid I’ve always enjoyed writing and making art in various forms, but it didn’t occur to me until I was in late twenties that I should try combining those two things and pursue picture books and comics! After I wrote my first terrible manuscript, I was hooked. To me, it’s the perfect balance of challenging and fun. And fortunately, my writing and illustrations have improved along the way.
